BP Plc. misapprehends the recovery after Oil Spill

The latest report published by the National Wildlife Federation regarding the recovery of the Gulf of Mexico 2010 oil spill.

National Wildlife Federation issued a report earlier this week and said that due to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010 the marine life has not completely convalesced up till now.  BP plc (ADR) . was held responsible for thedisaster, which caused around eleven deaths of workers and immense damage to the nearby environment.

Carl Barbier –a federal judge of United States said that the oil companies had showed gross negligence and will face a maximum amount of penalty according to the Clean Waters Act. From that day, BP has made several efforts to induce its shareholders that marine life in the Gulf is getting back to normal.

As reported by NWF, nearly twenty species in the place are still suffering because of the oil spill. The report shows that about 32% population of laughing gulls was quenched due to the oil spill. Numerous species of fishes also got affected.

Guardian reported, Ryan Fikes –a scientist of NWF said, “This report, more so than any, shows that science is certain that this is a long-term problem, but it’s going to take even more time to understand the true magnitude of this.”

The report also added that the death rate continuous to rise for many species. For example dolphins were expected to die at 4 times along the coastline of Louisiana. Now, the NFW wants to ensure that the culprit of the disaster should take suitable action to help the environment in getting back to normal.

According to NBC, Geoff Morell –senior VP of BP plc while commenting on NWC report said that it was due to the political backing. He further added that the report did not see the government data of 5 years and 3rd party data which confirmed that the environmental damage was not that serious. He added that the wildlife and environment have recovered strongly.

Crude oil prices have dropped by more than 50% in past 10 months together with the damages bear by the firm because of the biggest oil spill, has put significant pressure on company’s liquidity position. Therefore, the outcomes of the report might go against the oil and Gas Company’s target of getting the penalty reduced to the lowest possible amount.

In the start of the last month, BP indicated that the wildlife and natural environment has got backed to normal as they were in 2009. But several political groups like National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) specifies that BP has miscalculated and was not able to comprehend the oil spill severity.
